Khalaktirsky Beach is situated on the eastern coast of Kamchatka not far from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The feature of that beach is black volcanic sand.
This is a rare phenomenon caused by constant volcanic eruptions in the region. Lava flows and slag stream and cool down on the slopes and neighbouring areas while rapid rivers, which start up in the glaciers, wash out this rock, rich in minerals, and bring it into the ocean, year by year. And then with every coming wave tiny pieces of volcanic origin are brought to the coastal zone and left there. The ocean doesn’t freeze in winter and reveals a black stripe of sand in front of endless snowy plain.

We undergo briefing about safety and driving a snowmobile and drive towards the Pacific Ocean.

Walk along the beach
Tea-drinking
We drive out of the forest to the open space of a coastal territory. Even from such a large distance we can feel salty smell of the ocean and hear sounds of waves.
We approach closer to the coast. There are huge blocks of ice resting on black volcanic sand and being washed by the waves of the Pacific. There we walk along the beach listening to the guide's stories and drink hot tea.

Way back
After a good stroll along the beach and breathing fresh salty air we set off on the way back. By snowmobiles we drive back to the parking where our off-roader is already waiting, and return to the city.

Arrival in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
At extra cost we can arrange a visit to the winter rookery of sea-lions or Zelenovskiye Lakes recreational center with radon hot springs.
