Esso is an administrative center of Bistrinsky district 600 km away from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The settlement is situated in a high altitude area, in the caldera of ancient volcano in the place where two rivers interflow. Esso is also called “the Kamchatka Switzerland” for its fresh air, coniferous forests, rapid rivers, mild climate, and hot springs.

You’ll meet the untouched nature of Kamchatka, visit the Bistrinsky Museum where the collection of culture and everyday life items of indigenous people is displayed, ride a horse, trek to Ikar Lake, and spend one day in a camp.

Tour program

Day 1

Transfer to Esso

Departure early in the morning. For an additional fee we can arrange transfer from the hotel, ask for details when booking the tour.

The way is rather long — about 10 hours, so we make several stops to rest and have fresh air. We stop by Sokhoch settlement to try Russian pies famous all over Kamchatka. In several hours we arrive to Milkovo to have dinner. Besides we drive by Ganaly and Anavgay villages. In the end of the day we check in Esso hotel, bathe in hot springs, have supper and rest.

Day 2

Horse ride to White Rocks

Visit to the Ethnological Museum of Bistrinsky district

The first half of the day we spend horse riding. The trail goes through a picturesque valley of the Ukhsichan river, passing by basalt slopes and through pasture meadows. On the way we make a stop for lunch. Arrival to a large deposit of zeolites — White Rocks. This mineral enriches water and soil, and gives life to famous lush flora of Esso.

Return to the hotel and rest. Then we go to the ethnological museum. It represents an architectural complex: a writ hut, a defense tower, barn for storing everyday items and harness, and a building of exhibition hall.
There we examine the items of shamanism, musical instruments and the Evens national clothes.

In the evening bathing in wild hot springs and relax.

Day 3

Trekking to Lake Ikar

Lake Ikar is the most popular place of Bistrinsky Nature Park. It was formed after melting of a glacier and has regular shape. There is a guard post and camping equipped at the lake. We rest on the bank and pick up seasonal berries. In the evening we return to the hotel and relax in a hot pool.

Day 4

Fishing at the Krapivnaya base

Overnight stay in camping

After breakfast we set out and transfer to the Krapivnaya (Nettle) fishing base. Dinner, making a camp and walking around. Then we pick up fishing gear and go to catch fish from the bank or a boat. We cook ukha soup of fresh fish, have supper and rest. Night stay in tents.

Day 5

Return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

Early in the morning we have breakfast, strike camp and drive home. We return by the same road making stops to have dinner and have fresh air.
